New Westminster Strikes Gold in Quesnel!

On Saturday, May 18, the Rotary Club of New Westminster was chosen as the Most Outstanding Club from among 51 clubs in Rotary District 5040 for the year 2012-13 at the Conference in Quesnel. 

District Governor Rebecca MacPherson presented the winning banner to President Kevin Gordon, who was joined by Rotarians Dr. Irwin Stewart, Del Paterson, Dr. Michael Kaburda, Laurie Stewart and Jeremy Perry. Also present were Justine Novak and Sylvie Barton, who are both Rotex (former exchange students) and Rotaractors in New Westminster. In addition, Anais Gaulard, the Rotary Youth Exchange student from France being hosted in New Westminster also represented the club. This auspicious occasion was attended by over 200 Rotarians and friends at the District Conference Gala Dinner.

Founded in 1928, the Rotary Club of New Westminster has been a pillar of community service in the city for 85 years. Originally, an exclusive business men’s club,Rotary has transformed its membership over the years. Since 1989, women have joined as members and now consist of over 25% of the membership internationally.  In the present day, the Rotary Club of New Westminster includes a vibrant group of women and men ranges from as young as late 20’s to over 80’s. They come from a wide range of vocational backgrounds for fellowship and work together to serve and build a better community. 

The Rotary Club of New Westminster and the Rotary Club of New West -Royal City are the two Rotary Clubs currently serving New Westminster. 

Both Rotary Clubs are always ready to welcome and engage new members.
